I would appreciate your vote on November 8. You can see my ballot statement here:
I currently serve as Half Moon Bay's mayor. During five council terms (1992-2003, 2014-2022) and five times as Mayor, I've worked to preserve our small-town character and open spaces, win funding for the Coastal Trail and city parks, strengthen our finances, and increase transparency of government operations. Together, we have accomplished much. I respectfully request your vote again to help make Half Moon Bay even better. I want to serve our entire community, support the best ideas regardless of source, prioritize equity in all policies and programs, and embrace public participation. I favor prudent, transparent finances and creation of a more diverse economy; improving and expanding bike and pedestrian travel; sustainable management of water and other natural resources; housing for our local workforce; business-friendly policies preserving Main Street; and enhancing safety and neighborhood quality of life for all residents.
I have lived in Half Moon Bay for more than 30 years. I was married and raised my family here. My two children attended local public schools. I recently retired after 21 years with the State Coastal Conservancy where I worked as a legislative analyst/liaison and senior grants manager. The Coastal Conservancy is a non-regulatory state agency that is one of California's three federal coastal zone management agencies. The agency has responsibility for funding construction of the Coastal Trail and other projects and awards grants to local agencies and non-profit organizations for natural resource restoration and enhancement, protection of agricultural and open space lands, and climate change adaptation. You can check out a sample of my projects at the links below:
I previously worked as a newspaper journalist and marketing communications specialist for Hewlett-Packard and other Silicon Valley companies and agencies. I hold a MA in journalism from the University of Missouri - Columbia and a BA in history from the University of Rochester. I also completed post-baccalaureate studies in biological science and conservation management at Oregon State University.
In addition to serving as a Half Moon Bay city councilmember and current mayor, I am the current chair of Sewer Authority Mid-Coastside and vice-chair of the San Mateo County Flood and Sea Level Rise Resiliency District (aka OneShoreline). I serve as the city's representative on the board of our regional transportation planning agency (San Mateo City/County Association of Governments or C/CAG) and am a member of C/CAG's Bike and Pedestrian Advisory and Resource Management and Climate Protection committees. I previously served as an alternate Central Coast member of the California Coastal Commission appointed to two terms by state Assembly Speakers.
I am member of CoastsideCERT (Community Emergency Response Team), the Sierra Club, Loma Prieta Chapter, Coastside Chapter American Association of University Women, Half Moon Bay Odd Fellows Lodge 143, and the Coastside Women's Club.
